Pet-A-Potty Dog Potty FAQ

What is the difference between Pet-A-Potty and dog potties:
The Pet-A-Potty can be used with either synthetic or real grass and has drainage. It also comes in different sizes.

Is it difficult to train a dog to use the Pet-A-Potty?
Not at all, especially if you use the natural sod and then switch to synthetic once the dog has been trained to use the unit. The Pet-A-Potty comes with instructions for use and you can feel free to ask us if you have any questions. If your dog does not use the potty right away here are some training tips:

  • Have a friend or neighbor's dog use the unit. This will attract the dog.

  • Buy training drops from a local pet store. This attracts dogs.

  • If the dog uses pee pads then cut them up and lay strips across the grass. Eventually remove the strips until only the grass and PETaPOTTY are there.

My dog lifts it's leg, will he be able to use the Pet-A-Potty?
Yes! Some dogs will lift and aim right in the middle of the potty, for others you can place a an object in the middle of the potty for him to urinate on like a small upside down flower pot.

How often does the grass need to be changed?
This depends on many factors such as the size of the dog and how many dogs are using it. On average the live grass lasts over one month. The synthetic grass can last about one year.

Does the live grass sod need sunlight? Does it need to be outdoors?
It does need some sunlight, but can be kept indoors in a sunny area. It does best in partial shade or partial sunlight.

Does the Pet-A-Potty develop an odor?
No it does not as long as you rinse it and empty the pan regularly. If any odor does develop you can clean it with the Smell'U'Lator cleaner.

How often do I have to water the live grass?
It depends on your climate, generally 2-3 times per week.

Is it difficult to empty out the tray?
For the larger models you will want to empty the urine into a bucket and then empty the bucket into the toilet. For the mini, you can carry the tray to the toilet and dump it in. Alternatively you could use cat litter in the tray and scoop it out and dispose of the litter.

How do you clean the synthetic grass?
We recommend that you rinse the synthetic grass each day that your dog urinates on it and then dispose of the liquid in the tray. If your dog goes number 2 on the grass you can dispose of the poop and then scrub it and hose it down and give it a spray with Smell'U'Lator.

Can't I just make one of these myself?
You can try, but it's not easy! The Pet-A-Potty is made of extruded polyvinyl. This material will not warp, rot or absorb liquids. The units are custom made and each unit is fully assembled when it is shipped out. The Pet-A-Potty's top pallet is sealed so that liquids do not run off of the side of the unit.
