 Dog Eating Poop / Coprophagia

Help for Your Dog's Coprophagia or Poop Eating

Help, my dog eats poop!

First, it is important to know that eating poop is not as bad for your dog's health as you would think, so don't panic.

Many dogs grow out of this! He may be eating waste for a number of reasons, the main one being that it is "working" for him. He is getting something he needs or wants out of it. Perhaps it tastes good to him, he's bored, likes to clean up after himself... Who knows! Enough speculation, let's solve the problem!

It is important to make sure that he is not allowed to continue eating feces. I know this can be difficult if you have become accustomed to giving your dog lots of free time, but a habit cannot be overcome if it is allowed to continue.

Prevent: try to be with him when he goes potty or your other dogs do, say "good" when and toss a treat for him to chase while you clean up. It may also be helpful to teach him to "leave it" in order to give you a little more time to clean up. You may also try feeding an improved diet or an enzyme supplement to be sure he is completely digesting his food. Check out the products below for more help.
